EMT basic training classes begin Monday, February 5, and run through Saturday, June 16, 2018. This class meets once a week from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Community Wellness, High Park building located next to the Goshen Hospital at 1721 South Main Street in Goshen. This course will begin your education into emergency medical services. This includes CPR, trauma, and medical assessment. Required classwork for the EMT basic training is done online so internet access is required.

SCORE Mentors of Greater Elkhart County is hosting a Business Owners Roundtable that meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month at 4pm.
With 10-12 small-business owners from non-competing industries, it encourages learning and networking in a respectful and collaborative environment. The discussions are conducted in an open semi-structured format. The agenda is set by members. The open discussions are amongst the members. SCORE Mentors, or an occasional guest speaker, may sometimes participate to enrich the conversation.
 
The Roundtable is facilitated by SCORE Volunteer Dane Willman with support from other SCORE Mentors. Dane is a seasoned Small Business owner with years of experience in roundtable discussions. 
 
Who should attend? 
Small Business owners or CEOs of all types of small businesses, with a minimum of six months of revenue, are welcome. Registration is required and participation is free. Jun 13 Open House Invitation-CAPS-Honor Current CEO Candy Yoder and Greet new CEO Melinda Konrath-Fielding

The CAPS Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Melinda Konrath-Fielding as president and CEO beginning on June 4, 2018. Konrath-Fielding follows Candy Yoder who has served at CAPS for 29 years. Yoder will be joining the Community Foundation of Elkhart County as Chief Program Officer beginning July 1, 2018.

 Konrath-Fielding brings extensive experience in nonprofit leadership. She has a degree in nursing and has served in director of nursing roles at Madison Center and Hospital as well as the St. Joseph County Health Department. Konrath-Fielding spent the last 13 years as president/CEO of Northern Indiana Maternal & Child Health Network, an organization she co-founded. She brings experience in grant management, strategic planning and organizational development. She was drawn to the CAPS opportunity to further extend her impact.

“Melinda’s proven leadership and organizational skills fit well with the demands and expectations of the President and CEO role at CAPS,” said CAPS Board Chair Brian Hall. “She has a heart for others, making her an ideal candidate for (our organization). We are thrilled to have found such a strong candidate to lead us into the future.”

“I’m am very excited to work with the board in accomplishing the mission of CAPS,” said Konrath-Fielding. “The prevention and advocacy work performed at CAPS is so important in protecting and supporting our children and families. I look forward to continuing the great work that is performed at CAPS.”

Under new leadership, CAPS will maintain its mission to reduce child abuse in Elkhart. The organization will continue to develop key partnerships across all communities with leaders, businesses, schools, churches, residents, neighbors and friends to ensure every child receives the opportunity for healthy growth and development.

SHIRLEY’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION TO BENEFIT GOSHEN PUBLIC LIBRARY June 16 celebration to include buy-one-get-one specials, a free coloring contest, and more. GOSHEN, Ind. – Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Company will donate 100% of sales at its Goshen location to the Goshen Public Library during Shirley’s Birthday Celebration on June 16. The day’s activities will include buy-one-get-one specials, a free coloring contest, story time, and free theatre style popcorn for customers who dress like their favorite book character. The annual celebration will be held on Saturday, June 16 at Shirley’s in downtown Goshen located at 106 N. Main St. “As a brand, Shirley’s is committed to reading and literacy,” said Kate Leaman, Shirley’s Goshen store owner. “We are proud to support our local public library with the day’s full schedule of offers and events.” Customers of all ages are invited to participate in a free coloring contest in-store on June 16 and receive a copy of the original story book, “Timothy Troyer Tries Toast.” The book’s awardwinning illustrator, Jenny Hanf, created the coloring page, which customers can pick up in-store or download at bit.ly/shirleyscoloringpage. At 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 5 p.m., Goshen store owner Kate Leaman will host a free story time for children. Additionally, customers are invited to participate in a book drive with new or gently used books to be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Goshen. Oakwood Resort Serves as Host Site for Wooden Boat Show
Syracuse, IN - June 6, 2018 - Trip Advisor® Certificate of Excellence winner, Oakwood Resort announces their pier area and boat slips will once again serve as the host site for the Wawasee Wooden Boat Show.  The show is scheduled to take place Saturday, June 30, 2018, from 10:00am until 4:00pm.  There will be a late day Thunder Run around Lake Wawasee, Indiana’s largest natural lake, for those wishing to participate but the event will not include any formal judging of the boats.
